About Us

Red Lion Organic Farm is located in the heart of the West Kootenay, British Columbia, Canada. Surrounded by rivers, artesian wells and nature at its finest, our organic garlic and garlic seeds are guaranteed to be of the highest quality.

Red Lion Organic farm is a 4th generation Doukhobor Farm and has been in Walter Berukoff family since its inception. The 25-acre farm consists of a 10-acre cedar forest, wildlife sanctuaries, and 10 acres of some of the finest agricultural soil in the region.

The Doukhobors immigrated from Russia in the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s bringing with them a tenacious and industrious spirit. The Doukhobors were the first settlers in the Kootenay region to turn rocky, barren land into fertile agricultural soil using all but their hands and a team of horses. They literally transformed unusable land and created farms while building community during difficult and challenging economic times. The dove of peace has been used as a symbol to reflect their peaceful nature and remains an integral part of Doukhobors values.  Red Lion Organic farm has a very rich heritage which can be seen as you walk the land. We renovated the original dairy barn which displays traces of old equipment once used. The farm used to be a home for dairy cows, pigs, chickens and root crops such as beets, carrots, potatoes, and cabbage. Walter and Mary Berukoff were an important part of the community offering a safe place for immigrants and of course family. Their legacy consists of being there for people when they most needed it, offering milk and food to those who had nothing.

Today Red Lion Organic Farm specializes in growing high-quality organic garlic and will soon offer organic apples, fruit and vegetables to local markets. You can buy online directly from the farm fresh organic garlic, bulk seed garlic. We are an anomaly in this region, as many farms have disappeared. Our goal is to provide high quality, healthy soil, and food for our communities and to tell a story in honor of the people whom once resided.
